From the Garden - Second Week of June 2020

#eatlocalyall

Hi, Neighbor!

We've got enough of these yummy fresh crowns to add it to some CSA kits, so (at least our early-run orders) will have broccoli in the kit, as well as Tatsoi. Please read the description on the CSA box before you buy- if it says broccoli, you can expect it. If not, you may have waited too late.

Also, our friend Barbara (Fox Hollow Farm) has asked us to help her out again with egg sales, so we're offering her amazing free-range eggs again this week for anyone who wants to add some rich protein to their diets!

Fruit news: Strawberries are done. In other fruit news: the blackberries are loaded and starting to turn, but we're having some insect damage on them, so I'm not 100% that we're going to have a great crop. What we do have should begin to start showing up by next week's store.

Chanterelle pins were spotted by Rob last week. If we get some afternoon rain, we are expecting another 7-10 days before they are ready to collect.

For summer veg: Okra and green beans are flowering. Green tomatoes are set. We should get squash next week, and our cukes are finally starting to wake up. We are still focusing on winter storage crops, in preparation for a potentially rough winter for food access. We're on our 3rd succession of winter squash plants, and our sweet potato slips are almost ready for planting. We do still have a few winter squash plants we could share, so if you have the space to plant one or five, please let us know and we'll do what we can to help you. If you don't have access to land, or want to practice crop management with us, be sure to click the "Contact us" link  about CoOp membership in the message below.

For fresh flowers: If you are a neighborhood resident or CoOp member, you are welcome to cut your own flowers again this week own at no charge. Please stick to the right-of-ways, and ask Rob or Melanie if you are unsure about how to do... Our premade bouquets will be available for sale at our market stands only.

Fresh food this week includes Lion's Mane, Chestnut, and Oyster mushrooms, spring mix, arugula, kale, chard, radish, carrots, tatsoi, broccoli, and broccoli leaves. Many of these items will be available a la carte at Nature's Corner on Thursday and in our store reset on Friday.

Townelake customers can still get (awesome) service by visiting us at Nature's Corner on Thursdays, and DTW customers can do the same at the Saturday market! We'll see you there!
